Our Vision

To ignite a transformation in engineering education, empowering India's brightest young minds to engineer a future of boundless innovation and positive global impact.

From classrooms to creation—shaping the engineers of the future

A nodal resource for Indian engineering colleges—we equip them with tools, funding, and know-how - to nurture future-ready engineers, makers who can fuel Industry 4.0, and innovators who will shape India’s tomorrow.

Scaling Impact

By 2030, we aim to expand to 100 engineering colleges across India—bringing industry and project-based learning to 10% of the nation’s graduating engineers every year.

Why Get Involved?

You care about the future of Indian engineering and know that India’s leadership in technology and innovation isn’t just imagined—it’s built, one engineer, one idea, one lab at a time.

Our Work

Our mission is focused on unlocking the transformative potential of engineering education in jumpstarting innovation in India. We work with higher education institutions (HEIs) to provide access to world-class equipment, resources and knowledge to integrate new methods of teaching and learning into the existing engineering curriculum. By cultivating such maker learning ecosystems, we hope to contribute towards developing a nation of makers – the next generation of master innovators, real problem solvers, confident builders, and ethical leaders.

Programs

Events

Upcoming events at the Maker Bhavan Foundation.

InventX 2025

InventX 2025 is an intensive summer innovation program where students transform ideas into working prototypes. The finalists will be announced on April 23rd, and the program will commence on May 26th at IIT Gandhinagar and May 30th at IIT Jammu. Over six weeks, participants will receive mentorship, prototype their inventions, and refine their pitches. The journey will culminate in the Grand Finales on July 4th (IIT Gandhinagar) and July 11th (IIT Jammu).

Indian Academic Makerspaces Summit 2025

The Indian Academic Makerspaces Summit (IAM 2025) is a premier platform dedicated to celebrating and advancing makerspaces in higher education. Bringing together educators, innovators, and students, the summit fosters collaboration, shares best practices, and showcases groundbreaking student innovations in engineering and design. IAM 2025 will take place from September 26-28, 2025, at IIT Gandhinagar.

Our Partners

We work in an open network partnership model working with future focused academic institutions, businesses, nonprofits, patrons and other stakeholders in an inclusive collaborative framework that allows quick scaling of our mission.

Our Partners

Our Patrons

Our patrons are the driving force behind our mission, providing the financial support and resources that fuel transformative change. Their generosity enables us to expand our initiatives, open new doors for students, and build a more skilled and future-ready workforce.

"I don't know of many institutes in engineering in this country that teaches people how to make a product. And when Hemant picked up this whole idea of Maker Bhavan, I was thrilled. I said, somewhere something is happening. We now need to make products in India in all our engineering schools. I think Maker Bhavan has to be part of every engineering institute in this country. That's probably the answer"

Ajai ChowdhryCo-Founder HCLTech

“I remember that one of the projects I built in Tinkerers' Lab was a Mars rover which tested cyanobacteria on microscopic images, soil sampling, etc. I am very glad that eventually,
this knowledge inspired me to build something that is deep tech, and actually
impacts society and industry. Eventually, I established my own start-up, Tvarit. I am in
Germany now, working with Daimlers and BMWs of the world. We have 70+ experts,
impacted 55+ plants and 3 R&D houses in IITB, TU Darmstadt, Stanford University"

Rahul PrajapatFounder, Tvarit GmbH

"It's been truly a pleasure to work with the outstanding students at IIT over the past few summers. We were impressed by the students' excellent knowledge base, energy, and passion to help people through their chosen profession of engineering. The students' willingness to work intensively on their inventions caused us to redouble our commitment to mentor them and drive them to produce their best work. We like to think that a program in inventing and patenting is valuable to and appreciated by the school's students particularly given that IITGN prides itself on its modern and innovative engineering curriculum. During our two summers in India, we felt welcomed and supported by the IITGN community, including the students, faculty and staff. We are looking forward to the programme running again at IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Bombay in the summer of 2021."

"I am delighted to be associated with Maker Bhavan Foundation (MBF), a visionary organisation re-making education to transform India's academic ecosystem. MBF has built a network of makerspaces in engineering colleges—spaces where students learn by doing, tinkering, and building. These are not just physical spaces, but places where students experiment, design, and solve real-world problems. With rapid prototyping programs and hands-on learning, MBF is cultivating a maker culture—shaping skilled, solution-driven students ready for the 21st century."

Adil ZainulbhaiChairman, Quality Council of India

"Maker Bhavan Foundation is not just shaping us as innovators but also helping us build our personalities. Through the Vishwakarma Awards, we had access to personality coaches and multiple training sessions that enhanced our presentation skills. Similarly, in the Invention Factory program, dedicated mentors work closely with us to ensure we communicate our ideas effectively. I truly appreciate how the foundation is investing in our overall growth, empowering us in every possible way."
