Engineering Excellence through Hands-On Projects

Projects at Tinkerers’ Lab are driven by student initiative, allowing a wide range of possibilities. From unraveling the inner workings of a gadget through disassembly to undertaking multi semester complex projects, students have the freedom to pursue their passions and delve into real-world engineering challenges.

Our collaborative environment fosters the formation of organic project groups. Whether it’s an individual student working on a small-scale endeavor or a diverse team of 10-15 students from different disciplines, they all have access to our facility and its resources.

MESHMERIZE

MESHMERIZE

The MESHMERIZE project aims to create a maze-solving robot that combines efficiency and intelligence. The MESHMERIZE robot uses advanced sensors and algorithms to accurately navigate intricate mazes, ensuring precise movement and conserving energy. This innovative project has potential applications in warehouse automation, indoor mapping, and educational platforms, inspiring students in robotics.

Boeing Aeromodelling

The Boeing Aeromodelling project aims to create a cost-effective RC plane for aerial operations, enabling efficient and affordable payload transportation and delivery. This advanced technology is designed for aerial photography, surveying, search and rescue operations, and humanitarian aid deliveries, demonstrating the potential for affordable and versatile solutions in various industries.

Tikerers Lab—History

History

The alumni of IIT Bombay, graduating class of 1975, recognized the need for a dedicated space that would inspire creativity, provide round-the-clock access to resources, promote learning, and foster a strong sense of community among the students of IIT Bombay. In 2014, they initiated the establishment of the first Tinkerers’ Lab (TL) as a legacy project within IIT Bombay, occupying an area of 750 square feet.

In 2019, a group of alumni from the class of 1975 came together to form the Maker Bhavan Foundation. They strongly believed in the concept of tinkering, which embraces a learn-by-doing philosophy and aims to push the boundaries of India’s education system. Their vision was to extend this concept to other educational institutes across the country. They aimed to nurture engineers and technologists who could effortlessly traverse the twin world of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice.

To achieve this goal, the Maker Bhavan Foundation funded dedicated labs that aimed to cultivate an innovative mindset among students. These labs aimed to encourage students to tackle real-world problems and to invent the future by solving problems that are yet to be imagined with technology yet to be discovered.

OUR PARTNERS

Empowering Youth through Partnership
