Welcome to the October edition of our newsletter!

For decades, India’s growth has been powered by its service economy. But as the world shifts toward design-led innovation and indigenous manufacturing, sustaining that growth now calls for creation — a nation capable not just of delivering ideas but of building them.

Building capacity is about more than infrastructure; it is about fostering a maker mindset that values designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating. To move from a service to a product economy, academia and industry must work closely together.

At Maker Bhavan Foundation, we have seen this in action through the Vishwakarma Award for Engineering Innovation, where industry partners share real-world problem statements from their production floors and R&D labs for students to solve. Beyond the awards, MBF has also worked with partners like Ansys, Lenovo, HP, Tata Motors, and Anand Rathi on branded Tinkerers’ Labs, hackathons, and sponsored programs that strengthen this ecosystem.

In this newsletter, we take a closer look at how the Vishwakarma model is driving this collaboration and shaping India’s maker economy.
