India needs innovative, affordable products to solve a range of pressing needs of society. Indian companies need a large number of engineering graduates from mid-ranking colleges who are well-versed in innovative thinking and product design. LEAP is an initiative towards this end.
Maker Bhavan Foundation aims to support and reform engineering education in India by initiating and backing various efforts. LEAP, a project housed at IIT Madras Incubation Cell, was founded by Prof. Timothy Gonsalves, former IIT Mandi director and IIT Madras professor. Inspired by his work on industry-oriented curricula at IIT Mandi and collaborations with startups and product companies at IIT Madras, LEAP focuses on innovative engineering education. MBF has funded the program since its inception and plans to continue its financial support, with LEAP potentially evolving into a non-profit society.

WIN Foundation has partnered in co – leading the Water and Sanitation Track of Vishwakarma Awards for three years, enabling students to develop practical, affordable solutions for critical challenges in water management and sanitation. Through project-based learning, students identify pressing issues, design prototypes, and test their solutions in real-world settings. The initiative trains young engineers in problem-solving for clean water, waste management, and hygiene systems. Through expert mentorship and institutional collaboration, students gain practical experience to build scalable technologies for sustainable development.
