IIT Bombay’s Tinkerers’ Laboratory is a student-driven space, managed solely by students under Prof. Ramesh Singh’s guidance. Inaugurated in 2014, it facilitates practical learning through over 400 projects and 1800+ course projects. The lab supports innovation with the ‘Makerspace 101’ curriculum and fosters entrepreneurship, evidenced by its contribution to 10 startups. It was also the first Tinkerers Lab to be inaugurated
IIT Hyderabad
Located at IIT Hyderabad, this 1000 sq. ft. Tinkerers Lab, supports projects focused on innovation, and technology. The lab’s Flagship event THRUST, the de-jure TechFest of IIT Hyderabad, and has secured sponsorships from companies like Bosch, Mathworks, Ansys, Silicon Labs, Hexagon, Suzuki Innovation Center, and Airforce.
IIT Gandhinagar
Located at IIT Gandhinagar, the Tinkerers’ Lab fosters a strong tinkering cultural facility Providing students access to tools like laser cutters and 3D printers, the lab empowers them to realise their ideas. With 462 unique users and 3764 hours of usage in 2022-23, its impact is significant. Beyond local activities, the lab strengthens the broader makerspace network by hosting Tinkeract, an All India Tinkerers’ Lab Meet.
Pravara Rural Engineering College, Loni
The Tinkerers’ Lab at Pravara Rural Engineering College (PREC Loni) operates under Guidance of Prof Suhas Kale. This lab supports student projects, including an IOT project designed to help farmers with soil constituent data and the development of a robot for Dussehra celebrations. They also serve as learning hub by organising workshops and learning session on the 3D printers, Laser cutter and Aurdino Bootcamps for other local institutes and schools
IIT Jammu
Established in 2021, the IIT Jammu Tinkerers’ Lab is a 1800 sq. ft. facility that provides 24-hour access to students and faculty, fostering a space for innovation and hands-on learning. The lab aims to cultivate innovation skills, promote indigenous production, and develop futuristic skills like complex problem-solving. In the 2023-24 period, the lab supported 414 projects, with the 3D printer being the most popular machine. The lab has shown significant growth in events and outreach, and IIT Jammu is planning to integrate it into a larger Institute Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Center to further enhance its capabilities and impact.
Nirma University
The Tinkerers’ Lab at Nirma University, Ahmedabad, is a platform for students to achieve recognition for their engineering projects. An example is the development of an Agastya 4.1(Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle) that won 1st prize in Aligarh Muslim University Remotely Operated Vehicle Challenge 3.0 National Level competition. The lab’s activities are also showcased through media like a shared ‘Octa Pod’ video.
BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus
The Tinkerers’ Lab at BITS Pilani is a 750 sq. ft. student-run makerspace established in 2022. The lab has played a crucial role in supporting various BITS Pilani projects and technical teams. Key projects include the development of a rover by CRISS and the Cansat project by Team Anant. The lab has assisted technical teams in streamlining operations and manufacturing components for competitions, such as rover wheels, CanSat fins, and pivot steering mechanisms.
ICT Mumbai
With its recent launch at ICT Mumbai in May 2023, this chemical Tinkerers’ Lab is one of its kind where students develop problem-solving skills by introducing tinkering as a path to advanced engineering and manufacturing practices. This lab is managed under the guidance of faculty Prof. Vishwanath Dalvi.
IIT Bombay Chem E
This ChemE Tinkerers’ Lab by the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay was inaugurated in 2022 to facilitate “hands-on” learning for students while equipping them with a physical environment that is conducive to technological innovations. This lab is managed under the guidance of faculty Prof. Venkat Gundabala.
IIT Indore
IIT Indore’s Tinkerers’ Lab, inaugurated on September 11, 2023, is intended to foster a culture of making and innovation within the institute. Typically, Tinkerers’ Labs function as makerspaces equipped with tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and other equipment that enable students to design and build prototypes. It is probable that the IIT Indore lab supports academic projects, personal explorations, and participation in competitions, providing a collaborative environment for students from various disciplines

Spanning 2200 sq. ft., the Tinkering Lab at PSVPEC is a dedicated innovation space designed to promote hands-on learning, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Equipped with tools for embedded IoT, robotics, EVs, and 3D modelling, the lab empowers students to turn ideas into real-world solutions. Managed by student teams and faculty, it enables advanced projects and prototype development, fostering a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship on campus.
Ahmedabad University
The Tinkerers’ Lab at Ahmedabad University is a student-managed, 24×7 innovation space designed to support hands-on learning, creative exploration, and real-world problem-solving. Equipped with tools and materials for electronics, fabrication, and design, the lab complements existing facilities, such as the Prayas Shala and Fabrication Shop. It enables students to work on academic projects, co-curricular activities, startup ideas, and competitions, all under the guidance of a supervisor. The lab fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and nurtures a culture of technical innovation on campus.

Located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, the Tinkering Lab at COER is a dynamic innovation space within the Incubation Center, spanning 2025.76 sq. ft. It is equipped with advanced tools such as 3D printers, CNC machines, and electronics workbenches. Designed to foster creativity, support research, and encourage entrepreneurship, the lab provides students and scholars with the resources to transform ideas into functional prototypes and real-world solutions.
Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad
Located in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, the Tinkerers’ Lab at TMU serves as a dynamic space for experimentation, innovation, and project-based learning. Outfitted with essential tools for electronics, mechanical prototyping, and digital fabrication, the lab enables students to transform their ideas into functional prototypes. It supports academic coursework, personal innovations, and interdisciplinary team projects, fostering a strong maker culture on campus.
National Institute of Engineering
ALPHA (Advanced Laboratory for Programming, Hardware, and Analytics) Innovation and Tinkerers’ Laboratory is Karnataka’s first twin-lab model combining High-Performance Computing and Electromechanical Prototyping. The two labs were inaugurated on May 21st 2025, in partnership with Lenovo and Motorola. Situated adjacent to Mysuru’s industrial belt, ALPHA lab is poised to host joint R&D projects, internships, and knowledge-transfer initiatives with local manufacturers.
