Welcome to the June edition of our newsletter!
Where were you when June began?
I was at IIT Gandhinagar, surrounded by a whirlwind of Innovation.
Invention Factory 2024 is underway at IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bombay, and IIT Jammu. This is where students transform ideas into reality. I saw students huddled around workbenches tinkering with prototypes that have the potential to make a real impact.
I went to Gandhinagar to be a part of the weekly evaluator panel. Enthusiastic students stood before industry experts, academics, and professionals who made up the panel, pitching their solutions and impact. What struck me the most was the spirit of engineering – the understanding that they weren’t just solving equations; they were solving real-world problems.
This year, we saw a surge of interest in the program. Over 700 applications flooded in, each with much potential. From this pool, 60 were carefully selected. We have landed a diverse group of science, engineering, and design students from colleges all over India. Working in multidisciplinary teams they have innovated in Healthcare, Manufacturing, Home Improvement, and several other domains.
As we head into July, we prepare for a grand finale. I want to share a teaser of their innovations with you forged in this crucible of creativity.

“As a program, it is the master chef for innovation, where you are crunching the entire process of coming up with a product into a six-week time frame. It’s interesting, it throws up different challenges, it forces students to think differently, and I think that’s critical at this stage of development.”
